Ballad of the Garment Trade

What a business

In less than an hour, we'll know if we even have a business

(sung)

If you don't want to get nervous

Do yourself a great big service

Stay away, far away from 7th Avenue

You can lose your sense and reason

Guessing what style for next season

Yes, the dress business will make a wreck of you

On guessing what a day will say

A sheer impossibility

These poor kids brave, they work away

And try to build an industry

How crazy, bold, and reckless

Can human beings be?

Good afternoon, ladies and gentleman

And welcome to the premier showing of Apex Modes Inc

Our collection is designed to make you dream

Whether you're seeing our creations or wearing them

First on our stage, the lovely Vera, wearing 104

Basics come, and basics go, right?

Well, here is a basic that is not going anywhere

Because basically, it's sensational

Ladies and gentleman, at 49.95, this is the biggest bargain on 7th Avenue

And now, make way for Janet in one of our most elegant creations

Number 629

Which you'll be seeing in the next issue of

Well, I promised Vogue I wouldn't tell

Ladies and gentleman, that's number 629

And now, our proudest moment

The number that represents for us the meeting of the world's two greatest streets

Broadway and 7th Avenue

Here she is, direct from the Great White Way

Wearing Apex's number 777

Wrapped in Martha's pink
