Shady Grove Blues

Well, they tell me the graveyard

Is a low-down dirty place

Well, they tell me the graveyard

Oh, Sam, oh, Lord

Is a low-down dirty place

They take you way down the graveyard

Yes, they will, man

Lord, they throw dirt in your face

Yes, I know

Well, I want my body buried

Lord, way down in Shady Grove

I want my body buried

Way down in Shady Grove

'Cause these blues and whiskey, God knows

Oh, Lord, have been the death of me

Yes, I know

Well, they tell me the graveyard

Lord, is a low-down dirty place

Lord, they take you down there, you know

And you know, and pound dirt in your face

Last night I went and laid down

I wasn't feelin' so good

Lord, I'd been drinkin' all day, God knows

And all the next night before

I said, "Lord, if I die, people"

Yes, yes

"Shove my body way down in Shady Grove"

Way back down in Alabam'

God knows where poor Slim belongs
