Teal Dreams

When I was born, a butterfly flew into the room

That's how I know I was born to do what dreamers do

I'm a lover, I'm a chooser and I choose to fight

They will monetize my dreams inside my head tonight

Somewhere between dreams and reality

It's a revolutionary act when Black girls dream

I've been moving restless when I try to sleep

Whispers of what the ancestors try to say to me

I dare to dream and carve a story out of stone

Wish I could tell my younger self I'm not alone

And when I sleep, I sow the seeds and watch them grow

Teal dreams, teal dreams

I might take myself on a ride

No more man-made limitations

Just my higher conscience and I

In flow, unknown destination

I wanna paint my soul in brushstrokes

And make a gallery of teal dreams

Real dreams, teal dreams

Confidence

Growing back, it's a renaissance

Used to dance in my parents' house

Then the world tried to tear me down

Ouch

Here in this room of greens and blues, I'm living loud

Lay back and cruise, let my imagination wild

Roll back the years, unlock the fears and mess around

Down with the empire, let me rewire now

I might take myself on a ride

No more man-made limitations

Just my higher conscience and I

In flow, unknown destination

I wanna paint my soul in brushstrokes

And make a gallery of teal dreams

Real dreams, teal dreams

Oh, oh, I

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not

Teal dreams are real dreams, I'm not
