The Broken

There's a man on the street I see every mornin'

He plays guitar and a harp, he's got a story

He didn't get here from a bottle or a bad drug

He lost his job and his wife in the same month

And that girl behind the counter that's messing up your order

She heard her husband was runnin' 'round on her

Left her with the kids and the bills and the rent

Now she's serving blue plates and workin' double shifts

Yeah

Give a break, give a break to the broken

Don't know where they've been, no way of knowin'

How much they're hurtin' through the hell they're goin'

So, give a break, give a break to the broken

There's a family on their knees down in Memphis

Their girl's been in and out of hospital treatments

They might be late for work or run a red light

But to say the least, they've got somethin' else on their mind

And there's a soldier, can't be older than twenty-three

Trying to fit in again from the Middle East

Nightmares come when he hits the sack

He might be home but he ain't all the way back

Give a break, give a break to the broken

Don't know where they've been, no way of knowin'

How much they're hurtin' through the hell they're goin'

So, give a break, give a break to the broken

If you ain't going through something now

Then consider yourself blessed

But on the day you do, you might

I hope you prayed something like this

I prayed something like this

Give a break, give a break to the broken

Don't know where I've been know way of knowin'

How much I'm hurtin' through the hell I'm goin'

So, give a break, give a break to the broken

He knows your heart, He knows your fears, He knows your mind, He dries your tears

He knows your weakness, knows your strengths

Heals your guilt, feels your pain

He loves you more than anything

He gives a break, gives a break to the broken

He gives a break gives a break to the broken

Give a break, gives a break to the broken

So, give a break, gives a break to the broken
