Hardest Huntin’ Season (feat. Jamey Johnson)

There's a picture hanging up

'02 Kansas in the fall

Me and you sitting behind the biggest buck we'd ever saw

Your ought six is on the mantle

Collecting dust is all it's doing

So I took it out this morning

I hope you don't mind if I use it

Yeah, the weather's almost perfect

And the acorns really fell

I bet the hunting's good up in Heaven

But down here, the hurting's hell

'Cause you ain't here to chase these deer

Drink these beers and ride these dirt roads

Crank some Hank on the way to spend all day up in a white oak

There's a lot of things I'd told you

If I'd have known that you were leaving

This is gonna be my hardest huntin' season

That buck that you been chasing

He showed up and I let him walk

'Cause if you ain't here to tell the story

I don't want him on the wall

I wish that I could just go back now

And not have to fight these tears

I know you're on a stand up there

But I wish that you were down here

But you ain't here to chase these deer

Drink these beers and ride these dirt roads

Crank some Hank on the way to spend all day up in a white oak

There's a lot of things I'd'a told you

If I'd have known that you were leaving

This is gonna be my hardest huntin' season

I keep your camo hat for luck

That beat-up bottom land

Nah, I ain't missed a morning

But I sure do miss you, man

Since you ain't here to chase these deer

Drank these beers and ride these dirt roads

Crank some Hank, on the way to spend all day up in a white oak

There's a lot of things I'd'a told you

If I'd'a known that you were leaving

This is gonna be my hardest huntin' season

This is gonna be my hardest huntin' season

Yeah, this is gonna be my hardest huntin' season
