Lost Soul's Prayer - Commentary
متن موزیک
If you've been listening from the beginning of the Fire and Brimstone
Album release special, you've already heard a wide variety of songs
Off Brantley Gilbert's brand new album. He's showing all sides of
Himself, and this next song, it is powerful. It's called "Lost Soul's
Prayer," and, Brantley, I wonder, this is such a personal song that
Shares so many intimate thoughts. I mean, it's almost like we are
Listening to your conversation with God. You also
Own up to your imperfections and your shortcomings
Was this song something that was on your heart to share
Or what inspired you to write "Lost Soul's Prayer"?
This record, we talked about it being this chapter but also being
Reminiscent, talking about things that got us here, and this one
Kinda goes from there to Fire and Brimstone. We see kinda growth in
My spiritual life as well, and this was kinda picked up in a hectic
Time in my faith. I guess the chapter of my life I'm talking about
When I was singing this song and when I wrote this song was, you
Know, I wasn't even praying right. I was doing everything wrong
And this song kinda spells it out. It's not language that you would
Normally hear in a prayer. It's not a prayer I would pray now, but
That was kinda setting the stage for how my faith has grown, and I
Feel like my wife has a lot to do with that, and my son has a lot
To do with that. But just taking steps forward, it's about the
Journey, and it's about the story, and that's the beginning place
I guess. You know, it's a repetitive theme in my life. It had been
For a long time. You know, it was like the further I got away from
That, the worse my decisions were, and the song kinda captures that
Moment. It was like, you know, being frustrated with faith and being
Frustrated, you know, with life, and it was kind of a looking-over-
Your-shoulder type time in my life. So it's an aggressive thing
There's a little angst there, and I
Feel like we captured it really well
You really did. It is a gorgeous song. I did wanna ask, I mean, not
That you ever claim to be the poster child for anything when it comes
To faith and religion, but, I mean, it seems to me that you're a
Perfect example of God's grace is limitless, and even as far away as
You get from Him, He'll always be there, always have your back, and
You know, always take you back when you decide to find your way back
To Him. So I almost have to imagine that maybe you have been
Instrumental in helping other people rediscover their
Relationship with God, and I, I just can't imagine what
That must feel like to know that you have helped
Somebody in that way. I mean, it must be truly humbling
What I've found is that songs that, you know, are closer to the heart
For me, when you write a song that's more than skin-deep, you tend
To get under the skin of people that could somewhat relate to it
And people are drawn. When it comes to my songs, anyway, I feel like
People are drawn more to songs that are closer to my heart, and no
Matter how imperfect they are, the realness of it is, you know
I feel like the majority of the folks that come to these shows and
And listen to my stuff, they're as imperfect as I am and, and lost
I guess, so to speak, and a lot of 'em may be in a place where
They're not close with their faith. And I don't know, I, I grew up
In some churches where it was a pretty strict idea of by the book
You gotta do this, you gotta be this. And for me, I don't know
I feel like I have my relationship with God, and I understand it
And I feel like living a conscious-based life, kinda asking Him to
Be the steering wheel but just trying to, man, be the best person
You know how to be, treat people the best way you know how unless
They give you a reason not to. If I go to bed at night, I'm the best
Husband and the best dad I know how to be, and I've at least tried
And I've tried to treat people the best way I know how
I feel like if I go to bed that way, that's a win. And I
Think, you know, that song's, the idea is to encourage people
To just have a relationship with God in my case, but you
See, you know, a lot of people are just completely turned
Off of that idea. Just believe in something bigger than you
I could not agree more. Well, it is, like I said, a very deeply
Personal song, and I feel like we're just getting an inside
Perspective of Brantley at that point in his life
Talking to God. This is "Lost Soul's Prayer." You'll
Find it on his brand new album Fire and Brimstone
Which we are celebrating with this album release special
