Pickin' at It - Live

You're talking about all of those influencers

I saw, I was watching television the other night

I love the WSMV

They're showing old Music City Tonight and national noun clips

Saw one the other night

It was George Jones, talking about how much he loved you

Oh! How about that?

How about that? I loved him

He said, "That boy can r-"

And he's right

Nancy Jones was here last night

Was she? Yeah

And it was so much fun to just get a chance to talk to her

And, you know, in-in the early days when we were first gettin' started

I used to do a concert down in-in Georgia

Marty actually came down and played with me one year

We did like a homecoming concert at the Omni in Atlanta

And the first year I did it, George agreed to come down

And play on the show with us

And-and we had it

I think it was George Jones

Trisha Yearwood, and Lynyrd Skynyrd was the group that we had

And ah, my mom, when George passed away earlier this year

This past year, my mom told me a story that I'd never heard before

With all his wild days, George had a soft spot in his heart for mamas

He loved mamas

Yes, he did

And he, my mom and my dad

Came up on the bus and got a chance to meet George at that show

And just as they were walking off

Of course, they got their picture taken, and they got

You know, autographs and the whole nine yards

And just as they're walking off

My mom was just about out of the steps of the bus

And George said, "Miss Tripp"

And she stopped and she turned around and looked

And he said, "Now, that boy of yours"

Said, "I know he's a little bit wild

And he's a little bit crazy"

He said, "But don't you worry about him

Because I was a little wild and crazy in my day, too

That boy is gonna be just fine"

I know that gave her great comfort

It did, it did

She-she-she was like, "I never forgot that, you know, I never forgot that"

Hey, can I tell before we run any, can I tell about the time?

When we finally had us a hit, and we started and you, he called one night

We've been on the No Hats tour, and we hadn't been to bed in a while

We're working on our, working on our act

So the phone rang in my bus one night

And it's about two in the morning

He says, "Bubba?"

I said, "Everything all right?"

He said, "Yeah, I've been doing some thinking, though"

He said, "We need to make some changes in our life"

I said, "I don't disagree with that"

I said, "Do I need to call the preacher?"

He said, "I ain't talkin' about them kind of changes"

I said, "Well, what you talking about?"

He says, "We need to buy some insurance"

I said, "Alright, oh, where are we gonna be tomorrow?"

He says, "I don't know, but you reckon they'll sell us some insurance"

There's bound to be somebody that would

So we called up this guy

And he come to see us, and he had his little briefcase

You remember them insurance guys that had the pins in their pocket? Oh, yeah

Oh, he gave us his pins and he was so proud of us

And, and he knew he had a couple of hillbillies that had some new money

So he started with me and I decided I needed some health insurance

So I started laying the money down for health insurance

He just made a killing on me

Then here he goes

Travis started buying fire insurance

Thousands and thousands of dollars of that country club money was going to fire insurance

He gave us some more pins, he gave us a calendar

And on the way out, he said, "Mr. Tritt, I also sell flood insurance"

And Travis says, "I don't need none of that

I don't know nothing about startin' one of them"

Wasn't long 'til half of Marietta, Georgia burned up

Not true

We better pick

Me and me and Marty have been off and on

In the last few months, we've been working in the studio on a new album

And Marty's actually producing it with me

And it, this is a real, I won't call it an unplugged album, but it's real, real close

It's-it's-it's kind of getting back to the roots of things

And we put about four things in the can so far

And we're going to finish it up in the next few months

And hopefully have it out before the end of this year

But, ah, one of the songs that we recorded for it is the first instrumental that I ever wrote

And the first instrumental that I've ever recorded

And for those of you who are not familiar with that term "instrumental"

I'm going to give you the redneck dictionary version of it (What is it?)

Some of, some of you Duck Dynasty fans will get this

The redneck dictionary version of the word "instrumental" is this

There ain't no singin' in it

Horse, Horse, that's right

And we went in, and we were getting ready to record this

And I said, "Marty, I said, you know, I've never, I've never recorded an instrumental before"

He said, "Really? You've never done an instrumental before?"

I said, "No"

He said, "Well, we're fixin' to fix that problem right here"

So this is a, a tune that you can be looking for on that album

It's called "Pickin' At It"

Mr Marty Stuart, y'all

(I love you, I love you)

Yes, indeed

There he is

Thank you

I love that old boy
