The Last Resort - Commentary

"The Last Resort" is my favorite song on the album

Um, we used to cover "I Got Mexico" and I always

Wanted a song like that for us, that felt like that

We talked about that song when we were reworking it

'Cause yeah, I'd written this chorus for "The Last

Resort" and the melody was like this other song that

Shane and Josh had sent us like years and years ago

That happens, you know, from time to time where you like internalize

Some of this you hear and it's like "

What- what does this sound like?"

Eventually it came to me that it sounded like that song

Just, I think it feels great

We always are looking for an excuse to just go full Gulf and

Western and only play down on the Gulf in Florida and Alabama

Double down on that life, yeah, try

To be the next Jimmy Buffett, I mean

Our buddy Dean Dillon told us early on, one of our first

Ever trips out to Nashville as songwriters before we were

Signed artists and he said "Boys, write what you know"

The second piece of advice that he gave us was "Make sure you love

It, make sure it is a part of you, make sure it's something that

You wanna say a lot because if you're lucky, you're gonna spend

The next 25 years, night in and night out, singing these songs"
