Weekends Look A Little Different These Days - Commentary
متن موزیک
Brett Young has eight new songs out today, and the collection is
Called 'Weekends Look a Little Different These Days.' We're talking
To Brett about all the songs, and before we get to the next one
I was thinking about the fact that Brett has been home now for over a
Year. He's been getting up early with his little girl Presley, and so
I'm wondering, Brett, have you thought about the fact that your
Schedule is about to be flipped upside down? You're gonna
Have to be staying up late to work instead of going to bed
At 9:00 o'clock like you talk about, and if I'm not mistaken
I've heard you say you're gonna be taking your two little
Girls out on the road with you whenever possible. So tell
Me how you're kind of preparing for that or processing that
Yeah, I think the hardest thing to wrap my head around, getting back
On the road with not only an 18-month-old now, but a baby on the way
Is what sleep schedules look like. Normally when I say that, I'm
Talking about my daughters; right now, I'm talking about mine. I was
Already getting to the place after Presley was born, before
Everything shut down, where the idea of work not starting till 9 p
M. was exhausting. Now with another baby gonna be here before we
Really get busy again, it's gonna take a ton of trial and error
I think, to figure out what it looks like and how we get that done
And my wife would be the first one to tell you, we don't know
What that formula is right now. Our goal is to have her and the
Girls come out as often as they can, but we don't know how that's
Gonna work, 'cause we don't know how they're gonna travel. So my
Goal would just be to keep my home life and my tour life as
Similar as possible, knowing that that's kind of unrealistic
And then just do the best that we can. I mean, at the end of the
Day, I'm not gonna miss out on mornings with my daughters just
Because I gotta work that night. I'm gonna have to figure out a way
To do both, and if that means napping in the green room in the middle
Of the day, we might need to figure out what that looks like
But either way, we're embracing it, and we're looking forward to it
Yeah, it's interesting, 'cause I think there are a lot of country
Music parents who have settled into that routine of waking up early
With the kids, 'cause they have to — kids get up early — and now
They're gonna kind of have to flip their schedule, where they're
Just going to bed at like 1:00 or 2:00 in the morning. So I'll be
Interested to check in with everybody in about six months. But I do
Want to keep going with the music on your new collection, 'Weekends
Look a Little Different These Days.' The next song, I was not sure
Which direction I was leaning with it. It's called "Leave Me Alone
" First of all, I love the groove of this song; it's so happy and
Bouncy. But the subject matter of the song, not so much. But with "
Leave Me Alone," I couldn't decide: Was it, "Hey, your loss, I'm
Having a good time," or is this person a little
Bit bitter about getting dumped? Tell me about "
Leave Me Alone" and what your take is on it
So "Leave Me Alone" is kind of our nod to "Like I Loved You" from the
First record. It kind of did the same thing where, musically, if you
Didn't pay attention to the story being told, it makes you feel good
But if you dig in, there's this crazy contrast between what's being
Said and what you're feeling as a listener. It was a strange thing
For me, because it morphed into a different song from the idea that
I had for it and the title that I brought to Jesse Frazier and Steven
Lee Olsen, which Jesse Frazier is the one that brings this really
Cool, like you said, it's almost like this beachy, happy vibe. The
Idea I had was really, again, about my experience with my breakups
With Taylor, and it wasn't an angry idea. It was remembering when we
Broke up, how important it was to cut off contact, because as long
As we were talking to each other, we weren't actually moving on
And so that was the idea; it wasn't supposed to be angry. But the
More we went into it, we saw that contrast between the music and the
Lyric, and we went, "We can kind of go 'Like I Loved You' with this
We can kind of get a little sassy with this if we want, and it won't
Feel that way; it'll just be that way." That was one of those ones
That took a while to have that realization and give ourselves
Permission to go a little bit sassy and angry, almost, before
The song started falling out. But once we did, I mean, we all
Embraced that. I think this is one where you need three to
Five listens to even recognize that it's an angry guy saying
This. At first, it just kind of, you get kind of lost in the
Music, and so it's gonna be a fun one for me. It's like one of
Those movies that every time you watch it, you pick up on
Something else. I think this song kind of has that dynamic to it
Yeah, it's kind of funny, 'cause you want to dance and party and
Celebrate, and you realize it's somebody who's coming to terms
With the fact that they got dumped, and they're a little bitter
