Tryin' To Make A Livin' On The Road

Passed a little town about an hour ago

Somewhere in the desert in New Mexico

Thinkin' 'bout somethin' that my baby said

I stop and get me somethin' for my achin' head

Pull into a truck stop, park by the tire shop

Kill about an hour or so

And then it's out on the highway

Tryin' to make a livin' on the road

Heat waves comin' out of both my stacks

Oil pressure's steady and my coffee's black

Highway patrol and the D.O.T

Not to even mention X, Y and Z

And go to L.A., turn around, come back to Cowtown

Drop off another heavy load

And then it's out on the highway

Tryin' to make a livin' on the road

I don't need a road map, I know my way

I've driven this road both night and day

I ain't worried about places that I've seen or been

I just want to see my baby again

Well, I'm tired but I can't stop, watch out for fallin' rocks

Speed zone ahead, go slow

And then it's out on the highway

Tryin' to make a livin' on the road

I said it's out on the highway

Tryin' to make a livin' on the road
