My Anthem

Little world, little town, on a road, in a car

Going nowhere fast

Just a girl with a boy who never been that far

He could never go back

I was tired of talking about going to college somewhere

You were tired of your parents fighting downstairs

We thought we could outrun our youth

You and me could outrun the truth

You weren't just a prayer, you were my salvation

You weren't just my first, you were my education

You weren't just a song on the radio

You were my solid gold centerfold, daddy hates my rock and roll

Back seat dancing

We ain't never growing old anthem

Yeah, you were my anthem

In a house, in a room with a poster on a wall

Looking for a way out

In a yard, in a dark, climb the fence just to fall

Thought that's what love was about

Even when you had to put my jacket abound your shoulders

We were pretending that the summer wasn't over

We thought we could outrun our youth

You and me could outrun the truth

You weren't just a prayer, you were my salvation

You weren't just my first, you were my education

You weren't just a song on the radio

You were my solid gold centerfold, daddy hates my rock and roll

Back seat dancing

We ain't never growing old anthem

Yeah, you were my anthem

You were the backbeat of freedom

The front row kind of feeling

Just what I needed to hear

The kind you wanna sing along

Baby, with your blue jeans on

We thought we could outrun our youth

You and me could outrun the truth

You weren't just a prayer, you were my salvation

You weren't just my first, you were my education

You weren't just a song on the radio

You were my solid gold, centerfold, daddy hates my rock and roll

Back seat dancing

We ain't never growing old anthem

Yeah, you were my anthem

The kind you wanna sing along

The kind you wanna sing along
