Decoration Day

People, I had a woman, she was just nice and kind to me most ev'ry way

Lord, I had a woman, she was just nice and kind to me most ev'ry way

But she died and she left me, that's why I sang the blues on ev'ry Decoration Day

I hate it so bad to see my Lord take my baby away from me

I hate it so bad to see my Lord take my baby away from me

I couldn't do a thing that mornin', Lord, but hang my head and cry

Me and my doctor was 'round her bedside that morning

When my Lord taken my baby away

Me and my doctor when my Lord taken my baby away from me

The last words my baby had to say:

"Bring flowers on every Decoration Day"

Yes, yes!

People have a good time on every Decoration Day

(Lord but they do!)

People have a good time on every Decoration Day

Well, every Decoration Day, I go out and decorate my baby's grave

Put an envelope flower, I shall love you baby

I love you baby, baby

I know you're dead and gone

But I still love you baby

Baby, I'm gonna leave you now baby

But I'll see you, see you on the next Decoration Day, baby

Put an envelope flower to decorate your grave baby

I still love you

Although I know you're dead and gone

I still love you, baby
