He Went To Work

He didn't go to college on a full ride

Baseball scholarship

Didn't head to L.A. or Broadway

Trying to make it big

He didn't take a few years after senior year

To try to find himself

He just did what he knew to do

'Cause he didn't know nothing else

He went to work, he'd get it done

Do anything under the sun

Even when his hands or his back was hurt

He'd dirty up a blue-collar shirt

He put his family and the good Lord

Top of the list of what he loved to live for

He'd drink a beer, he'd hunt and fish

Played catch with me and give mom a kiss

He went to work

When times were tough, bills piled up

The ends didn't wanna meet

If he worried some, you couldn't see it none

No, he just rolled up his sleeves

He went to work, he'd get it done

Do anything under the sun

Even when his hands or his back was hurt

He'd dirty up a blue-collar shirt

He put his family and the good Lord

Top of the list of what he loved to live for

He'd drink a beer, he'd hunt and fish

Played catch with me and give mom a kiss

He went to work

It ain't easy trying to live up to his name, no, it ain't

Someday I hope my kids can say that same

He went to work, he'd get it done

Do anything under the sun

Even when his hands or his back was hurt

He'd dirty up a blue-collar shirt

He put his family and the good Lord

Top of the list of what he loved to live for

He'd drink a beer, he'd hunt and fish

Played catch with me and give mom a kiss

He went to work
