When My First Wife Left Me / Hobo Blues

My first wife left me

Boy, she put me out in the big world

When my first wife left me, left me

Put me out in the big wide world alone

I thought probably to hold on

Making freight trains and highways my home

I had a good woman, good woman

But I was so young and wild

Oh, yeah

I had a good woman, good woman, boy

But I was so young and wild

You know she told me

"John, I got to let you go"

"'Cause I know you don't mean one woman no good"

Now hear what I did

I left my wife and my baby, boy

My lil' baby, was only four days old

I left my wife and my baby

Oh, she was as old as four days old

I ain't seen my wife and my baby

You know it been a long, long, long, long time

I been drinkin' and jammin', boy

Ever since my wife been gone

Yes, I have

I been drinkin' and jammin', drinkin' and jammin

Ever since my wife been gone

I ain't found nobody, found nobody

To ease my troublin' mind

Yes sir

Freight trains, freight trains

Freight trains and bus cars have been my home

Yes sir

Freight train, freight train

And bus cars have been my room

My wife and my baby

I wonder how could they be doing

If I get my wife back again, boy

I ain't gone drink a gammin' whole bowl no more

If I get my wife back again

I ain't gone drink a gammin' whole bowl no more

I done got old, I done got old

God knows I understand, understand now, baby

I used to be young and wild, young and wild

Oh, I used to be, I used to be

Oh, boy, young and wild, young and wild

When my first wife left me

Lord you put me, put me out on the road
