Praying By The Rules

Dear God, can You forgive me for this beer

And the language? Damn, I need Your help down here

I was hoping to bend your ear

I ain't kneeled down in my Sunday best, I'm in a field

In dirty denim and I hope that ain't a deal breaker

For my dear Savior

To help an ol' boy out

Without a bible in his hand

Showing up just as I am

Hats on, head ain't bowed

Ain't got no Southern Baptist pew

And I'm as dusty as these boots

I hope it's cool that I ain't praying by the rules

I don't know the ins and outs of how this whole thing goes

And I'm sure you've got a couple million folks, lost souls

Waiting in line with a little more important things than mine

But somehow you always find the time

To help an ol' boy out

Without a bible in his hand

Showing up just as I am

Hats on, head ain't bowed

Ain't got no Southern Baptist pew

And I'm as dusty as these boots

I hope it's cool that I ain't praying by the rules

I guess I'll let you go

I'll get to the amen

But we both know I'll be back

'Cause I'll need you again

To help this ol' boy out

Without a bible in his hand

Showing up just as I am

Hats on, head ain't bowed

Ain't got no Southern Baptist pew

But I'm as dusty as these boots

I hope it's cool that I ain't praying by the rules

That I ain't praying by the rules

That I ain't praying by the rules
