Footlights

I live the kinda life

That most men only dream of

I make my living writin' songs and singin' them

Now I'm 38 years old

And I ain't got no place to go when it's over

So I hide my age and I hit the stage tonight

And try to kick the footlights out again

I throw my old guitar across the stage

And watch my bass man take the ball

And the crowd goes nearly wild

To see my guitar nearly fall

And after twenty years of pickin'

You know I'm still alive, still kickin' in the walls

But tonight, I'll kick the footlights out

And I'll walk away without a curtain call

Yeah, tonight, I'll kick the footlights out again

And I'll try to hide the mood I'm really in

I might not put on that old Instamatic grin

Yeah, tonight, I'll kick the footlights out again

And again and again, boy

I live the kinda life

That most men only dream of

I make my living writin' songs and singin' them

Now I'm 38 years old

And I ain't got no place to go when it's over

So I hide my age and I hit the stage tonight

And try to kick the footlights out again
