Sweet 16

Yesterday we were comin' of age, everything brand-new

Just a boy and girl, us against the world

We didn't have a thing to lose

Blue jeans, Friday night lights, and in the blink of an eye

We came alive as our innocence died underneath the September sky

And now sweet 16's 34

We traded in a drop-top hot rod Chevy for a four-door Ford

And those sweet memories are forevermore

A lot of things changed, but I love it just the same

Or even more than I did before

Rat races and places to be turned to nothin' to prove

Jagger fifths in our grocery list, and they're laced with some honey dews

New shoes and backpacks for school, ain't we livin' the dream?

We were breakin' the rules, now we're makin' the rules

And we're somewhere in between

Somewhere between a dream and a compromise

Every day reminds me how time flies

And now sweet 16's 34

We traded in a drop-top hot rod Chevy for a four-door Ford

And those sweet memories are forevermore

A lot of things changed, but I love it just the same

Or even more than I did before

You were gonna be an actress, I was gonna be a big rock star

A house in the hills, everything but bills

Champaign and caviar

Photo shoots, first class flights

We'd sleep all day and rage all night

Just you and I livin' the life, yeah

We got no Oscar, we got no Grammy

But we got us friends and family

The wheels keep spinnin' just a lovin' and a livin'

And it's better than it was before

And now sweet 16's 34

We traded in a drop-top hot rod Chevy for a four-door Ford

And those sweet memories are forevermore

A lot of things changed, but I love it just the same

Or even more than I did before

And now sweet 16's 34

The wheels keep spinnin' just a lovin' and a livin'

And it's better than it was before
