No Lessons

Momma told me to be careful

Don't just give away my heart

Keep my secrets to myself

Hold my tenderness apart

But then no one counted on you... least of all me

You took everything I had

And everything I used to be

The older I get the less I seem to know

Who I even am and how everything is supposed to go

There were so many signs but I saw none of 'em

Cause there are no lessons

And this isn't one of 'em

I paid my dues till I was broke

Tried every scrip to fix my life

It's like trying to take the edge off

With the dull side of the knife

But if you hit the bottom there might be a lower floor

It takes everything you have to get back

Where you were before and

Are we doomed to just repeat

Until we're brought down to our knees

How can a person never slip

On what a person cannot see
