Crawlin' King Snake

“Crawlin' King Snake” by John Lee Hooker appears on his 1959 album, I’m John Lee Hooker.

“The Hook” is in his prime in this recording, and he’s singing what he knows: Delta Blues.

Well I'm a crawlin' king snake

And I rules my den

Well I'm a crawlin' king snake

And I rules my den

Don't want you round my mate

Wanna use her for myself

You know you caught me crawlin' baby

When the grass was very high

I'm just gonna keep on crawlin' now baby

Until the day I die

Because I'm a crawlin' king snake

And I rules my den

Come on and give me what I want, baby

And I won't crawl no more

You know I'm goin' away now, baby

But I'll be back 'fore long

When I come to town now, baby

I'll be the same old snake again

Cause I'm a crawlin' king snake, yes yes

And I rules my den

Come on and give me what I want, baby

And I won't crawl no more

Well now I'm crawlin', yes I'm crawlin' now baby

I'm crawlin' front of your door

You got anything I want, now baby

I'm gonna crawl upon your floor

Because I'm a crawlin' king snake

And I rules my denYou know you caught me crawlin' baby

When the, when the grass was very high

I'm just gonna keep on crawlin' now baby

Until the day I die

Because I'm a crawlin' king snake baby

And I rules my den
