The Night the Lights Went Out

Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City?

(I wanna know, I wanna know)

Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City?

Don't you know that I was making love?

(She was making love)

I remember on the 13th of July

The only light was the light up in the sky

New York had a black-out for twenty-five hours or more

And nobody really knows the reason why

Ooh, somebody pulled the plug out of the socket (The socket)

For safety's sake I went the door to lock it (To lock it)

So I took my lady by the hand

And led her to love land, love land, love land!

Ohh, Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City? (All over the town, yeah)

Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City?

Don't you know that I was making love?

(She was making love)

Ooh, sweet sweet love

(She was making love)Central Park was jammed after dark

Innocent girls were robbed of their hearts

Population's gonna grow in nine months or so

Where will all the little-bitty babies go?

The politicians said it was a pity (A pity)

But that was the night they called New York "Love City" (Love City)

So I took my lady by the hand

And led her to love land, love land, love land!

Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City? (I wanna know, yeah)

Where were you when the lights went out

In New York City?

Don't you know that I was making love?

(She was making love)

Ooh, sweet sweet love

(She was making love)

Ohh, do you remember what you did?

On this dark and humid night?

Eight million people in the city

Without a light in sight

Oh!

Oh!

Oh!

Oh, can you remember?Where were you (Where were you?)

When the lights went out (Where were you?)

In New York City? (I wanna know, yeah)

Where were you (Where were you?)

When the lights went out (Where?)

In New York City?

Don't you know that I was making love

(She was making love)

Ohh, sweet, sweet love, yeah

(She was making love)

I wanna know

(She was making love)

Had my baby by the hand

(She was making love)

Led her to love land, yes I did

Oh, where were you?

On a crowded elevator?

Where were you?

Maybe an escalator?

Oh, where were you?

On a crowded bus, yeah (Where were you?)Now, where were you? (Where were you?)

Maybe a train? (Where were you?)

Now, where were you? (Where were you?)

In a airplane, girl? (Where were you?)

Or maybe an office building? (Where were you?)

I wanna know, yeah

I was making love, yes I was

Alright

Alright

Or maybe at a disco?

When all the lights went out

(Check the plug, man!

Hey what's goin' on, man?

What's goin' on?

Ow! Stepped on my foot!

What's happened to the lights?

What happened to the music?

What happened to the music, man?

The sound went out!

Hey, what going on?

What's going on?

The whole city: no electricity!

We don't have any electricity!

What happened to the music?

The electric went out, man!

Somebody pull the plug?

Oh, man!

Hey man, I don't know why

I don't know why they'd do that

Let 'em keep grooving with the drums

Go on, groove, baby, groove!

C'mon baby!

Come on, come on, yeah!

Yo, that's groovy!

The electric will be on any minute y'all!

Ahh, yeah!

All the lights inside of New York City!

Ain't no time, no more

I can't see!)

Ohh, somebody pulled the plug

Out the socket

Ohh, for safety's sake

I went to the door to lock it

Population's gonna grow in nine months or so

Where will all the little-bitty babies go?

(I was making love

She was making love)

Ohh, politicians said it was a pity

But that was the night they called New York "Love City"

Ohh, where were you?

Where were you?

And you, and you, and you, and you too!

Where were you?

Where were you?

When the lights went out in New York City?

I was making love

You was making love

She was making love

Everybody making love

Eight million people in the city

Everybody is making love

(See there's nothing else to do

You can't take no shower

You can't watch TV

You can't do nothing!)
