Mr. Bojangles

I was borned in Coffmen county Texas at was in 11th of September eighteen and eightysix

Come to California in nineteen six

I didn't haft to go to world's war one or to old for world's war two

One good thing and was always been proud of

I was the youngest in the family and the rest where all married and

I taken good care of my mother and father as long as they lived

There a fella up here at the post office one day he was a pettin' him

I says to him that dog you have no idea how smart he is

I just thought I'd tell ya

You ain't tellin' me nothing, I know all about

Kids would come here, we wanna here old Ted sing an them days

I fooled with him more then

I could just come inst this way

I want you to sing now, do do do wooo

Now I have to take the harp an make a sound before he'll sing

Teddy come here come on, come on out from under there

You know sit down, sit down Teddy

Now here I want you to sing, sing these folks a song, sing thee old rugged Cross listen, cord with this now here

Yo, doo, doo

Sing, oohhh

Woo, woo

I knew a man Bojangles and he danced for you

In worn out shoes

Silver hair, a ragged shirt and baggy pants

The old soft shoe

He jumped so high, he jumped so high

Then he lightly touched down

I met him in a cell in New Orleans, I was

Down and out

He looked to me to be the eyes of age

As the smoke ran out

He talked of life, he talked of life

He laughed, clicked his heels and stepped

He said his name, Bojangles and he danced a lick

Across the cell

He grabbed his pants an feathered stance, four, he jumped so high

Then he clicked his heels

He let go a laugh, he let go a laugh

Shook back his clothes all around

Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance

He danced for those at minstrel shows and county fairs

Through out the south

He spoke with tears of fifteen years how his dog and him

Traveled about

The dog up and died

He up and died

After twenty years he still grieves

He said I dance now at every chance in honky tonks

For drinks and tips

But most of the time I spend behind these county bars

'Cause, I drinks a bit'

He shook his head and as he shook his head

I heard someone ask him, please,

please

Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, Mr. Bojangles, dance
