نِد راتنبرگ نوازنده و آهنگساز چندسازِ بادی است که بر ساکسوفونها، انواع فلوت از جمله شاکوهاچی، و کلارینت باس اجرا میکند. او از دههٔ ۱۹۷۰ در مقام هنرمند مستقل و چهرهای اثرگذار در جریانهای تجربهگرای جَز فعال بوده و در سال ۱۹۷۸ در پروژهٔ Creative Orchestra به رهبری Anthony Braxton حضور داشت. راتنبرگ همان سال به نیویورک نقل مکان کرد و سپس با هدایت گروههایی چون Power Lines (New World) و Double
