Dame Joan Sutherland
جوآن ساترلند، سوپرانو برجستۀ سدۀ بیستم، به‌ویژه در نقش‌های بل‌کانتو و سپس در رپرتوار دراماتیکِ کلراتورا درخشید؛ صدایی که به چابکی، دقت و اوج‌گیری درخشان در منطقهٔ زیر شهرت داشت. او ۷ نوامبر ۱۹۲۶ در سیدنی به دنیا آمد و آموزش آواز را از کودکی زیر نظر مادرِ خواننده‌اش آغاز کرد. در ۱۸سالگی با راهنمایی استادانش در سیدنی به گسترهٔ سوپرانو هدایت شد و در ۱۹۴۷ با اجرای Dido and Aeneas نخستین حضور صحنه‌ای
